NIA Arrests Pulwama Resident In Connection With Sunjwan Attack

A Pulwama resident has been arrested by the NIA in connection with an attack on the Sunjwan military base, which happened in April this year. On Thursday, an official spokesperson said the suspect is believed to be a key accused in the matter.

According to authorities, the accused, Abid Ahmad Mir from Putrigam, Pulwama, is an overground worker in the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit.

Mir is allegedly believed to be a close associate of another accused, Bilal Ahmad Wagay, also arrested in the case, and is believed to be in touch with JeM handlers based in Pakistan.

The spokesperson said that Mir has aided the other accused in committing the crime.

On April 22, militants attacked a bus carrying CISF personnel during an early morning shift change at a checkpost of the force. Two militants were killed in the encounter.

The militants fired and lobbed grenades at forces stationed near the ‘Chaddha’ camp in the Sunjwan area.

The attack occurred just two days prior to Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Samba, in the Jammu region of the J&K Union Territory.
