Jammu and Kashmir police arrested social activist Waqar Bhatti today, on Friday, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments with his ‘shivling’ tweet, which sparked social media outrage.
Netizens demanded his immediate arrest in response to the tweet, which was later deleted.
A police officer while confirming the arrest said that ‘FIR was registered following his tweet, which has hurt religious sentiments’.
After receiving backlash on social media, Bhatti attempted to clarify his tweet by saying, “I did not target any religion and why should I target when the matter is in court”.
