In order to prevent the use of mobile phones by inmates in Jammu and Kashmir jails, Ministry of Home Affairs India has announced putting in place a jamming system.
The MHA also plans to segregate first-time offenders from criminals to prevent mix-up. Also, Steps to be taken for ensuring prisons don’t become “breeding ground for anti-national activities.”
“Medical facilities in jail hospitals/dispensary may be strengthened and improved in such a manner that reduces the requirement of referral of inmates outside the prison complex,” the letter reads.
Further, psychological assessment of inmates by competent medical professionals shall also be encouraged to provide them with a positive outlook in life.
MHA has advised prison staff to encourage the inmates to leave the life of crime and become responsible citizens of the nation.
The letter also stressed on putting restriction on unnecessary movement of jail staff in and out of the jail.
