A woman was washed away while three others were rescued in flash floods in twin districts of J&K—Poonch and Rajouri on Wednesday.

 

Police officials said that two women were crossing river Betar at Noorkote when they were trapped in river water.

 

A rescue operation was launched soon after information of duo getting trapped in river water was received, police said, adding that a woman has been rescued but the second woman got washed away and is yet to be traced.

 

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police along with State Disaster Response Force rescued two persons, who were trapped in flash floods in Darhali river in Rajouri.

 

An official said that the duo was crossing over to the other side of a river and got trapped in flash floods.

 

He said that locals raised an alarm following which a team of police along with components of SDRF reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

 

DySP Headquarter Rajouri, Mudassir Hussain said that after an hour long joint rescue operation, two men were successfully rescued and both are stable and out of danger.

 

He identified them as Ankush Kumar son of Dharam Pal of Rajouri and Sunil Kumar son of Dukh Ram of Punjab at present residing near the new bus stand Rajouri.

 

Additional District Magistrate Rajouri, Rajeev K Khajuria asked people to stay away from water bodies and not to take their cattle and vehicles close to rivers.

 

He also stated that the water level has increased in some water bodies due to heavy rainfall.
