A man was killed after he was hit by a vehicle at Chowgam area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said.

 

An official said that a man was hit by a dumper vehicle (JK03E-4288) at Chowgam and he was immediately rushed to emergency hospital Qazigund where from he was referred to GMC Anantnag for treatment, where doctors declared brought dead.

 

“The deceased has been identified as Abdul Hameed Dhobi son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Chowgam Qazigund,” the official said, adding that police have taken cognizance of the incident and started further investigation.

 

Meanwhile, after the accident, the residents of Chowgam village staged a protest and demanded restrictions on heavy vehicles including trucks and dumpers on Chowgam route.

 

They said they are facing immense hardships due to free movement of heavy vehicles in Chowgam. “This trend has not only caused inconvenience but also led to several accidents as well,” the protesting residents said.
