The US has condemned the derogatory remarks made by two now-suspended BJP leaders against Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and has urged India to promote human rights.
“Well, this is something that we’ve condemned. We condemn the offensive comments made by two BJP officials, and we were glad to see that the party publicly condemned those comments,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters at his daily news conference on Thursday.
He was responding to a query from a Pakistani journalist.
“We regularly engage with the Indian government at senior levels on human rights concerns, including freedom of religion or belief, we encourage India to promote respect for human rights,” he said.
Several Muslim countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the Maldives, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman and Afghanistan have condemned the offensive remarks directed at the Prophet (PBUH).
