Today, on Wednesday, JKLF chief Yasin Malik has been award life imprisonment by the National Investigation Agency’s special court at Delhi’s Patiala House Court.

The decision on quantum of punishment was much awaited. This judgement was pronounced by NIA Special Judge under section 121 IPC and section 20 of UAPA.

Malik was convicted on 19 May this year after he preferred not to contest his case. Reports revealed Yasin Malik told the that he won’t beg for anything from the court. He asked series of questions to the Judge that were ignored.

“I will not beg for anything. The case is before the court and I leave it to the court to decide. I will accept hanging, if proven guilty,” he told the court.

Malik’s residential area Maisuma reverberated with sloganeering amid shutdown observed across different parts of Kashmir.
