Mehbooba Not Allowed To Hold PDP Youth Convention At Gupkar

Srinagar: The authorities on Sunday placed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chief, Mehbooba Mufti under house detention and denied her permission to hold a youth convention of the party at her Gupkar residence in Srinagar.

An order issued by the Executive Magistrate, 1st Class, south Srinagar, read that the youth convention, which was to be held by the PDP at Gupkar, was not allowed.

“In view of the report received by the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar and Covid-19 restrictions in place; it is hereby ordered that the scheduled youth conference that is to be held by the PDP at Gupkar is hereby not allowed,” the order read.

The Executive Magistrate’s order further said the Station House Officer, police station Ram Munshi Bagh, was hereby directed to ensure that no such event takes place at Gupkar without the permission of the competent authority.

Meanwhile, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the move by the authorities to not allow her to hold a youth convention at her residence here.

“It is quite obvious that they want everyone to surrender before them and are opposed to the PDP’s agenda of peace with dignity. They want to choke our democratic space for any kind of political activity,” Mehbooba told The Indus Post.

She further said, “Peaceful activity does not suit their violent narrative and the PDP is doing everything to expose this. We are not willing to go for any kind of compromise on our basic agenda which is reconciliation and dialogue for the resolution of the Kashmir problem.”

This is, however, not the first time that the PDP chief was put under house detention by the authorities and not allowed to undertake her party’s political activities.
